Suggestions

The past week has been really confusing with the Spanish Pilot Class for me. After my sister and I finished the first assignments we checked back and did not find any more. So we didn't know what to study. Now I found the other assignments for chapter two, and have a week to complete the first few. I will be out of town later this week so it will be a stretch to get everything done!

I have a few suggestions and ideas to avoid having confused students in later classes like this.

First, I would suggest blogging when assignments are up. Maybe choose a certain day of the week when new assignments are posted, and let the students know which day that is. This will help avoid students not knowing what is expected of them, and gives them a consistent time of the week where they can go on the site and know their new assignments will be up. It allows them to use their time wisely, because instead of constantly checking the website to find out the assignment they can go once a week to find out what they are supposed to do.

Second, I would use the instructor blog more often. The blog is a great idea to use as a home base for the class. The instructor could post about assignments, comment on the chapter, ask questions for the students to answer on their blogs, and post websites that can be of help for studying. The introduction to the blog said "It is very important that we will be using this site as a portal to the project." However, the last blog post was on January 31st! I think that if you take advantage of the huge resource of the blog it could really help the learning of the students instead of leaving the students to figure everything out (which is what it feels like right now).

I do like the idea of this class. I think it is so neat that I can talk with a native speaker, and learn about their culture along with practicing my spanish! These are some suggestions for you to make this an even better experience.
Gracias

Finding my way around

Over the past few weeks I (Elizabeth) have been figuring out the pilot format. Reading the text is a bit difficult for me, as I can not sit in front of the computer to read a lot of text without my eyes feeling dried out. The content was very familiar so I also found myself skimming rather than absorbing, and that lead to difficulties in the workbook assignment.

I got very frustrated while doing the workbook because I got almost every question that I was doing (My sister and I are splitting the questions) wrong, either because of mis-spelling, or accents. Once it was because I used the names of the people in the question instead of "ellos" or "ellas." I will be paying more attention next time, but still. I hate being wrong and when I got nearly everything wrong for mistakes I didn't know would be counted, I was angry. I am definitely hoping to do better next time!

The lab is very easy. Sometimes the native speakers speak really fast, but other than that it was fun (and it's the one time I can talk to myself and not look crazy! haha. just kidding)! I am looking forward to continuing this study and meeting with the webcam tutor on Monday.

Ciao!

Los Medanos Pilot Class

This is the blog my sister Teresa and I (Elizabeth) will be using to document the process of going through a Pilot Class from Wiley Plus.

We got invited to this by our former Spanish professor, Ms. Laura Huffman. Since we are not taking any Spanish classes this semester, we decided to try this pilot out.

Expect more blogs about our experiences, both from me and my sister. We are completing the course together due to the amount of spaces available in the class.

I need to go finish some more school work, so ciao!
